Beyond repair?

To start with of all, wow! Exactly where has summer months long gone? How can it maybe be September currently???

This is only heading to be a limited website, but I just preferred to share a small repair service career that I have been doing the job on right now. The client initially sent me an e-mail a handful of weeks ago, as she’d been informed by a higher avenue jeweller that her sentimental gold dress ring, was not ready to be resized. Que that tiny evil bit in my brain that just would like to prove them wrong and demonstrate that it IS possible, and voila! One resized garnet and pearl gown ring. Yes, it IS a fragile ring, so she’s not likely to be able to dress in it every working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, rather than being destined to sit in a box permanently!

It’s 9ct gold, set with garnets and pearls and is pretty fragile, but surely not beyond restore. It’s a “dress ring” and will in no way have been intended to be worn all of the time.

The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all close to it, and for the reason that it’s a extremely small ring, the hallmark took up most of the available space, so I had to choose wherever to make the lower quite carefully.

Adding the new gold

It’s all many thanks to my Dado laser welder below. It meant that I could insert in a new section of gold and “weld” it in place without the need of risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

At the time the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a circumstance of pretty diligently cleansing up the joins.

The newer gold alloy was a marginally distinct color, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Prepared to have on!

Of course, you can see the sign up for if you look intently, but occasionally it is not all about completely hiding the new aspect. This ring was about preservation and creating it wearable once more.

Polished and ready for numerous extra many years!

A “very” cautious polish so as not to hurt all those sensitive pearls, or to eliminate to considerably of the character. In my view, it is suitable for an antique to glance as these!
