“Making the Cut” winner Jonny Cota knows something about one of the industry’s most burning questions: Is Amazon really interested in fashion?

“It’s tricky…” said the Los Angeles designer outside his retail store opening Aug. 1 at Row DTLA, which will be the exclusive brick-and-mortar store carrying the Jonny Cota Studio “Metamorphosis” collection that launched in April on Amazon after he won the fashion reality competition series and $1 million prize.

“Customers today are responding more to a lifestyle element, the way things are shot, getting rid of the white background, showing a little more realness, and Amazon is not there,” he said, while acknowledging Amazon’s systems (at least pre-pandemic) are exceptional. “Right now, guidelines are very strict, every background needs to be white, there can’t be a single accessory unless the thing is sold in the photo. Proenza designers reflect on getting off the ‘hamster wheel’

NEW YORK (AP) — As New York was grinding to a halt in the spring, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the designers behind Proenza Schouler, were a world away, trekking in Patagonia. They came back to a changed city.

“Those first couple of weeks were obviously spent just figuring out how to keep the company afloat,” says Hernandez. Then the duo realized they had to start drawing their next collection. They sat in their studio in Massachusetts “with a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, blank walls, and we’re like, ‘All right, here we go … what are we gonna draw?’ We had NO idea.”

What eventually emerged was a collection, just released, that dispensed with much of the spectacle and structure of a fashion show — because for once, there wasn’t going to BE a show — and focused on ease, heavy on soft fabrics and, strikingly, shoes that

Princess Anne new ‘style icon’ after royal used as ‘muse’ in Italian fashion collection | Royal | News

Princess Anne’s “effortless, nonchalant style” has become the focus of fascination for fashion designers, according to commentators. This comes after an Italian brand confirmed that they had used the Princess Royal’s extended history of outfits as inspiration for their latest collection. Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito discussed the new unexpected “style icon”.

Ms Bowie told listeners: “My high this week has been the revelation that Princess Anne is a muse for the Serafini fashion house.

“We know that obviously, Diana is a style icon, but so is Anne.

“She’s all over the Pre-Fall 2021 mood board for this Italian fashion house called ‘Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini’, which I’m unfamiliar with.

“The collection even nods to Anne’s equestrian days, what she wore to Royal Ascot in the 80s, some of her evening wear.”
